To our valued patients,

Please limit your visits to the clinic for acute and urgent cases only. Email your clinicians for their availability, daily updates and any future appointments you may have, and your clinician will advise you about next steps. Our hours of operation are changing as we are monitoring the Ministry updates.

Registered Massage Therapy in Pickering

Is an injury or condition limiting your mobility and causing pain or stress? Book an appointment with The Physio Clinic @ West Durham for registered massage therapy in Pickering as part of your recovery or wellness program. You will find that massage therapy is useful to your clinical rehabilitation to relieve the pain, tension, and swelling that are particular to your specific physical health condition. Massage therapy can also improve your movements and posture as your registered massage therapist (RMT) manipulates impaired soft tissues and joints.

Registered massage therapy is part of our multidisciplinary approach to treating pain and injuries. Please contact our clinic if you have a referral or wish to book an appointment. We are now accepting a limited number of new patients.

Registered Massage Therapists – Professionally Educated and Regulated

The massage therapy you receive The Physio Clinic @ West Durham is performed by a registered massage therapist or RMT who is registered with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO). All members of the Registered Massage Therapists' Association of Ontario (RMTAO) must be registered with the College as licensed massage therapy practitioners to use the title of massage therapist or registered massage therapist. Their required professional training and licensing include:

  • Completing required courses at an educational institution accredited by the Government of Ontario

  • A minimum of 150 clinical hours
  • Successful completion of CMTO certification exams

Therapeutic Massage – Beyond Relaxation to Healing

One of the benefits you associate with massage is relaxation, but therapeutic massage performed by a registered massage therapist not only works to relax muscle tension but also promotes healing. Do you have bad posture or carpal tunnel syndrome from your job, chronic pain from an injury, or limited range of motion from arthritis? Your RMT is trained to perform an assessment, formulate an individualized treatment plan, and provide massage therapy for a variety of conditions, including:

  • Sports, vehicle and workplace accidents
  • Fibromyalgia and other forms of chronic pain
  • Back, leg and neck pain
  • Muscle tension and spasms
  • Tendonitis, arthritis and bursitis
  • Dislocations, strains and sprains

In Ontario an RMT is a primary health care provider. You may visit our RMT either by referral or your own choice. The Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) does not cover therapeutic massage services, but your extended health benefits plan may cover all or part of our RMT services. Call us for specific information or consult your policy.

Individualized Therapeutic Massage Treatment Plan

As with any health care service, you will receive an individualized massage treatment program at The Physio Clinic @ West Durham. Our RMTs are trained in a variety of massage techniques so that your registered massage therapy at our Pickering clinic is appropriate for you condition and goals. Your personalized treatment plan is based on an initial assessment and your health history. You may also expect an evaluation of range of motion, posture, discomfort levels, pain points, and damage to muscles and joints. Your first appointment is very important to treatment strategy, goal setting, and treatment evaluation. And you are always encouraged to ask any questions you have.
