The Physio Clinic @ West Durham is pleased to inform you that our practice is now open, and here is what you have to look forward to when booking your next appointment.

Please continue to email your clinicians for their availability and any future appointments you may need. Your clinician will reply within one business day and provide you with an appointment time. Your patience is much appreciated.

To further aid in social distancing measures, upon your arrival for your scheduled appointment, please do not enter the clinic more than 5 minutes prior to your appointment time. We will be staggering appointments to allow for fewer patients in the clinic and more time to clean and thoroughly disinfect the equipment and facilities between patients. We have temporarily shut down our waiting area to enforce social distancing.

If you decide to wait outside, please maintain safe social distancing practices with commuters and other patients.

While at the clinic, your treating practitioner will take the time to discreetly screen you before you are brought into either a treatment room or the exercise area. Your temperature will be taken, and you will be asked to use hand sanitizer to further ensure a safe environment.

In addition, we kindly ask that you leave all your personal belongings in your car in order to reduce the risk of contact. Our staff members who are in direct contact with patients will be wearing Personal Protective Equipment. We ask that you bring your own PPE, and kindly wear the items unless otherwise directed.

We thank you for your understanding and patience during this time and look forward to seeing you soon!

Stay safe,

The Physio Clinic @ West Durham Team!

Physiotherapy Treatments Offered in Ajax

If you’ve recently had knee surgery, if you experience chronic pain or if you have been injured during a sporting event, consider physiotherapy in Ajax to help you get rid of your pain and improve your health. Also called physical therapy, physiotherapy includes rehabilitation and prevention of injury as well as promotion of health and fitness. Physiotherapists have in-depth knowledge about how the body works and are trained to restore you back to your normal functioning and limit the amount you are disabled by an injury or illness.

The Physio Clinic @ West Durham offers physiotherapy in Ajax and Pickering so that you can have a complete plan for returning back to health. Our physiotherapists can treat a wide range of conditions from minor ankle sprains to strokes and other neurological disorders. While injuries do heal on their own, if not treated properly they can leave behind pain, limited mobility and other problems.

What Is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a treatment method that focuses on the science of movement which helps people restore, maintain and maximize their physical strength, function and overall wellbeing. It does this by addressing underlying physical issues such as injuries. Encompassing rehabilitation, injury prevention and health promotion, physiotherapy takes on a holistic approach to treatment by looking at your lifestyle and engaging you in your own treatment.

When you first visit a physiotherapist, they will assess you using detailed history-taking along with specific physical tests and measures such as range of motion and flexibility. The physiotherapists will then analyze their assessment findings and use clinical reasoning to establish a diagnosis. Together, you and your physiotherapist will explore your current functional needs and abilities to create a comprehensive treatment plan that is consistent with your goals and general health status. This plan will incorporate approaches and techniques that are supported by the best evidence available.

What Does Physiotherapy Treatment Include?

While massage therapy and chiropractic care are both great ways of improving your overall wellbeing, physiotherapy is a more complete way to improve your health. Physiotherapists work to create a comprehensive plan to get you back on your feet, improve your mobility or relieve your pain. Physiotherapy treatments can include elements of both massage and chiropractic, including:

  • Personalized exercise programs designed to improve strength, range of motion and function
  • Massage
  • Joint mobilization and manipulation to reduce pain and stiffness
  • Hot and cold packs and modalities to relieve pain, reduce swelling and speed up the healing process
  • Airway clearance procedures to assist people with breathing difficulties
  • Skin and wound care
  • Functional activity and tolerance testing and training
  • Work and occupational re-training
  • Prescription, fabrication and application of various devices and equipment
  • Removing barriers and changing your environment
